Possibly the prettiest bird in Kenya with seven colours of plumage.
Beautiful as the bird is the call is harsh and mostly used during the mating season or when threatened.
This bird has caught a legless skink - a reptile which mostly lives underground but regulates its body temperature by surfacing to either heat up or cool down.
I went out this morning looking for lions which I found lying under an acacia tree. I like to photograph animals and birds with some sort of active behaviour. I see many safari vehicles bypassing everything to get to lions, leopards, cheetahs etc . They miss the small things which are just as interesting - often more so.
The trick, I think, is to sit and wait. Drink in the atmosphere and watch to see what happens.
