Starting on a happier note this evening - the day was full of leopards. A female mother up a tree sleeping for hours and hours, her mating partner also up a tree sleeping and one of their cubs, pictured here, patiently waiting for his mother to provide supper.
Twelve months ago I was witness to the conception of the two cubs and it is heartening to see them both fit and well. Many leopard cubs are killed by other male leopards so that the female comes back into season to mate again.
The mother, Lucy, is the only leopard named in South Luangwa, her picture is featured on day 6.
