The Dung Beetle contributes to the African ecosystem by rolling and burying balls of animal excrement - usually elephant.
It has amazing navigational abilities using the sun and stars to navigate its way back home after foraging.
After rolling the ball back to the burrow the faeces are used to lay an egg. The young will then feed from the excrement whilst still under the ground.
A diurnal scarab this wonderful creature collects the spherical mass whilst there is moisture within the animal droppings. Not only will this help the ball stick together more easily it also gives the youngster water.
