The heavy rain last night lasted over 3 hours. Thunder and lightning and an immense amount of water meant that all of the driving paths were seriously muddy.
Controlled grass burning in windy weather is not advisable. Consequently the smoke drifted over the Mara and the fires became rather less controlled. During the last of the daylight the colours through the smoke were amazing - deep red against a darkening sky. Sadly I'm not a landscape photographer so you have an antelope today.
The Mara is absolutely full of Topi at the moment. Many have calved during late September and are seen exercising with other youngsters running as fast as they can - a joy to watch.
When alarmed they gather together, sometimes as many as several hundred but usually in herds of 15-20. On migration they can number 12,000 individuals.
