Last day today in the South Luangwa region so an early morning drive where I watched four Ground Hornbills walking around looking for insects and lizards. This male is parading proudly showing off his prize morsel to the others.
Hornbills nest in tree cavities and the female blocks off the entrance with faeces and mud leaving only a small hole through which the male passes food whilst she is sitting on eggs or chicks.
When the oldest chick is capable enough she will exit the hole and the chick will re-block it again. Both adults will then feed the growing chicks.
Arrived in Nairobi at midnight, shattered.
