Often confused with the gorgeous Martial Eagle this is a Black Chested Snake Eagle.
Mainly solitary and silent unless in the midst of the breeding season. It hunts its prey of snakes (obviously), monitor lizards, rodents, insects, small birds and even bats or fish.
Photographing dark plumage against the bright sky is tricky. Up the exposure compensation and you blow out the sky but you are also in danger of losing all detail in the light colours of the bird.
Hopefully next time it will have a snake in its beak !
