This adult Fish Eagle is calling to confirm its territory. One of a mating pair with a sub adult still being reared. The head is thrown right back as part of a display but may also allow the call of the bird to carry further.
They have amazing eyesight and are thought to see in colour. Even when the river is murky after rain this amazing bird can see through the water and calculate the refraction to grab a fish.
It has specially adapted talons with a reversible 'thumb' which helps to carry the prey back to a perch.
Generally feeding predominantly in the morning this bird will also predate the Saddle Billed Storks' catch.
The cry of the Fish Eagle is one of Africas' iconic sounds.
