Not everyone can be born beautiful but we all have a purpose. With a close connection with death the African vultures are natures' rubbish disposal team cleaning up the dead and stopping disease from spreading.
Here these two are waiting patiently for the lions to leave. The White Backed on the left is critically endangered largely due to poisoning - poachers use poisoned bait to stop them circling above their illegal kills and therefore warning the rangers.
The White backed vulture cannot tear through tough skin and waits for the Hooded vulture, on the right, to open up the body.
As these birds constantly put their whole heads into the cavities of the dead they have evolved to have little feathers to stop the accumulation of blood and consequently flies and disease.
