Under the shade of the sausage tree a mob of banded mongeese were harvesting the nectar from the fallen flowers.
The baboons take the stamen, the mongoose the nectar and the Impala eat the flower itself. The fruit of the tree is similar to a squash. It is huge, heavy (5-10kg) and obviously shaped like a sausage. During the dry season when there is very little grass hippopotamus eat the fruit.
A veritable feast for all.
